Responsible Recycling Protects the Environment

Proper recycling of old appliances safeguards the environment from toxins and ozone-depleting gases, and reduces the waste stream.
Older refrigerators and freezers contain a number of hazardous and toxic components. Without
proper recycling and disposal, these contaminants will end up in a landfill and be released into the environment. JACO recycles approximately 95% of each appliance.
Not only is energy and money saved by not having to produce raw materials,
the recycled products don’t enter the waste stream, resulting in even more benefit
to the environment.
  • Refrigerants containing chlorofluorocarbons, which are both ozone-depleting and potent greenhouse gases.
  • Foam-blowing agents that were used to expand foam insulation in refrigerators and freezers prior to 1995. They are also chlorofluorocarbons, which deplete the ozone and contribute to climate change.
  • PCBs found in some capacitors.
  • Mercury found in thermostats and switches.
JACO recycles approximately 95% of each appliance. This includes:
Reduce your carbon footprint in a very big way:
Recycling just one refrigerator or freezer prevents
up to 10 tons of CO2 and CO2 equivalent from
entering the atmosphere. That is equal to taking
two cars off the road for one year.
